I have a story to tell and it WILL be long :)

So, I was always more of a dog person. I grew up with dogs, I understand dogs, I'm good with dogs, I never even thought about having a cat because, well - dogs are my spirit animals. Then I moved. My BF was a cat person. He really really really wanted a cat. We contacted a local shelter and we got a cat. Spoiler alert - that didn't go well. It was the most beautiful fur ball ever. She was gray turkish angora, that kind of a cat you'd see on TV and ask yourself if that thing can even be real.

The same moment she was out of her cage she hid under the bed. Of course, that's what cats do when you take them to new home. The problem is, she stayed there for way too long. Like, few months too long. That was first red flag, but we didn't care - we had the most beautiful cat ever. Over those few months of hide and seek, trying all possible advice from professionals and reading every available book about cats, it slowly started to become crystal clear - that cat had issues. Not like scared kitty issues, but real problems that had to be addressed and something had to be done. I'll skip our adventures as I could write a book about year with that cat and this post would be way too long. We spent more than a year working with her with almost no improvements and eventually we had to rehome her. For me, that was it about having cats at home and even BF had to agree we needed a break after she was gone.

Then we moved again. New house came with huge backyard and field behind it that I used as a shortcut to get almost everywhere. One day while going out I heard strange cries - little black kitten in a bush. It couldn't be older than two weeks so I brushed it off as mama was probably around. Same scenario happened next day. I started coming every now and then to check if mom is around but kitten's cries were louder and there was no other cats in sight ever. When I couldn't listen its cries anymore I took him inside for the night. Kitten was fed, warmed and next day I returned it to the same place. At least that was my plan.

Few hours after I returned a kitten, it magically reappeared on my doorstep. Now please note, it was a very, very young kitten, it wasn't even able to walk yet, but it still somehow managed to crawl after me. I tried explaining that I'm a dog person, and that I don't want a cat, especially ugly black baby cat but it stayed.

As he was growing into his independence I tried to find him a good home, but noone wanted a black cat. Plus, he obviously wanted to stay as he was the most perfect cat when we were alone and the worst monster whenever someone new came to visit.

That was ten years ago, he grew up into the most perfect puppy cat ever and we are still inseparable.

I just hope we get another ten years together.

Wow! What a story. I'm glad you two got your happy end. I wonder what happened to that first kitty?

Thank you. I know better now, you can't force connection with an animal that doesn't want to accept you. She did find a great home tho - we rehomed her to a lovely elderly lady. We prepared the lady to the worst, but cat became everything opposite to what she was with us withing 24 hours. They were perfect match.

Black monster's name is Victor ;)

(and yes, he IS big lol)

Thank you! He really looks stunning (not saying that because he's my lol).

I guess the other cat just couldn't get used to our lifestyle. My ex and I both worked from home. It wasn't noisy or anything but maybe that was too much mingling for her. Also, I never learned about her history, she wasn't a kitten and had life before, maybe she was living with elderly people who she liked, or had young people around who she didn't like. I guess I'll never know for sure but I'm glad rehoming worked out for her.

You know you became a real cat mom when you find your cat in a bowl and instead of scolding him you hope he doesn't move so you can take a photo 🤦‍♀️

Today was one of those rare days when I was so proud of my cat. He met my mom's new puppy and was surprisingly polite and friendly 🖤 (pics coming as soon as I figure out how to upload them from phone)
